The
New York Times reports that the architects of the new tower at
One World Trade Center have created a system for building skyscrapers from wood. Their 42-story design would result in emissions of 2,100 tons of CO
2e, compared with 9,500 tons for a typical concrete and steel structure.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill has developed a proposed structural system that uses timber to build tall buildings as an environmentally friendlier alternative to steel and concrete.
